Description
Treasure Island, Fla. – The clock is ticking down, and in a few short months it will be time for Treasure Island’s signature sand sculpting event – Sanding Ovations. Each November Treasure Island Beach becomes a wonderland of sand sculptures, and buzzes with various activities as the city celebrates one of the assets that makes our community so great – the beach. This year’s Sanding Ovations will be Nov. 16-19 with an encore weekend Nov. 25-26. The theme, “It’s About Time” will pay homage to all things representing “time.” Songs with “time” in them, popular slogans using “time,” world attractions representing “time” and more. Sanding Ovations will come to life with the talents of 13 world-class sculptors led by Treasure Island’s own Meredith and Dan Doubleday of Sanding Ovations professional sand sculptors. Visitors will enjoy a beach food court, beer garden and arts and crafts marketplace. Kites and night fly’s will be provided by Windworks of Maderia Beach. With fireworks lighting up the night sky on Saturday, Nov. 16, and local, regional, and national touring bands making waves throughout the event. Names and bios of sand sculptors will be released at a later date. Sanding Ovations presents “It’s About Time,” a Sand Sculpting Exhibition and Competition” will be free and open to the public. Plan a visit to Treasure Island Beach to see what happens when master sculptors use their imaginations and turn piles of sand and buckets of water into “outSANDing” works of art. For more information, visit sandingovationsmasterscup.com or call Treasure Island’s Parks & Recreation Department at 727-547-4575 ext. 221 or 237. History of Sanding Ovations Florida was also home to the world’s largest sandcastle in 1985. Florida Governor Jeb Bush proclaimed Treasure Island as the Sand Sculpture Capital of Florida in 2001. This is what helped lead to the creation of Sanding Ovations, an annual sand sculpting exhibition and competition. Master sand sculptors from around the world come to Treasure Island to create sand masterpieces for everyone to enjoy.
